About the Organization

The People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, focused on bringing Americans together to find common ground around nonpartisan policy reforms. We are looking for candidates who are able to work directly and respectfully with people from across the political spectrum without bias. Our organization embraces diversity and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The People is a completely remote team, candidates must be driven self-starters and be able to work successfully with minimal virtual oversight. The remote nature of the organization also means the candidates may be asked to travel occasionally for meetings and events.

Internships

We offer fall semester, spring semester, and summer internships, all of which are based remotely. We’re always on the lookout for talented interns who are passionate about fixing America’s broken political system. With The People, you’ll be part of a hardworking, fun, and innovative team that values your skills and creative input.

Our interns gain hands-on experience and an in-depth understanding of the rapidly growing grassroots reform movement. We’re committed to making sure your internship is educational, challenging, and informative! Our Internships are UNPAID and are not stipended; however, we are happy to work with your school/institution to provide documentation confirming project work to fulfill academic credit / service requirements. Contact info@thepeople.org with any questions.

Request for Proposals - Writing & design of a citizen-driven democracy reform guide

The People and the Respect Voters Coalition are coming together in search of proposals to research, write, and design a practical, field-tested playbook for running citizen-driven democracy reform campaigns, including ballot initiative campaigns! Proposals are due March 30th.

Employment Opportunity - Bookkeeper

We are currently hiring a bookkeeper!

The Bookkeeper handles traditional bookkeeping responsibilities for the organization, including payroll, accounts receivable and payable, financial reporting, and audits.

The People is a fully virtual team, so the bookkeeper needs to be a driven self-starter, able to work successfully with minimal oversight. The ideal candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, familiarity and experience with G-Suite (Google Workspace), and QuickBooks.

Please submit a resume and cover letter highlighting any relevant experience to ryan@thepeople.org

Employment Opportunity - National Political Director

We are currently hiring a National Political Director!

The National Political Director leads the strategic and operational implementation of the policy and volunteer engagement strategy in a three‑state civic engagement initiative that moves communities through a structured process: deliberation, dialogue, and action. This role ensures consistency, quality, and integrity across the action plans of each state, consciously adapting to the political, cultural, and institutional realities of each state.

The ideal candidate is a systems‑level thinker with deep experience in political landscapes, coalition building, and multi‑state program execution. Each of the target states will have their own teams and the ideal candidate will be able to advise, manage, support, and guide each of these teams to success. They must be able to work respectfully across the political spectrum, maintain strict nonpartisanship, and translate complex institutional dynamics into clear strategies for staff, partners, and community stakeholders.

This is a remote role requiring strong self‑management, cross‑functional coordination, and comfort working with minimal oversight.

Please submit a resume and cover letter highlighting any relevant experience to ryan@thepeople.org

The People also has a diverse group of volunteers working on committees and specific projects.
